One of the oldest and most effective charities in the world, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) is a Catholic lay organization of more 700,000 men and women (known as Vincentians) throughout the world who voluntarily join together to grow spiritually and offer person-to-person service to the needy and those living in poverty in 149 countries on five continents. Vincentians are united in an international society of charity by their spirit of poverty, humility and sharing.
Organized locally throughout the Diocese of Shreveport, Vincentians witness God’s love by embracing all works of charity and justice. In 2014, Vincentians throughout North Louisiana served almost 20,000 people in need through over 3,000 home visits, hospital visits, prison visits, numerous food pantries and a free pharmacy – accumulating more than 31,000 hours of dedicated service to those in need.
